Badminton Asia Championships 2022: India Squad, Schedule & Where to Watch

The 40th edition of the Badminton Asia Championships commences on 26th April 2022 at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex in Manila Philippines. The Championships re-start after a two-year gap due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. This prestigious event will showcase the best of badminton as the top shuttlers in Asia will strive their best to be crowned the best player in Asia. 

Four representatives from each country are allowed to participate in one category. The categories are the event are

  • Men’s singles
  • Women’s singles
  • Men’s doubles
  • Women’s doubles
  • Mixed doubles. 

12,000 BWF World Ranking points will be awarded to the winner of each of these categories.

The Indian Squad

The team faced multiple last-minute changes as many players were forced to drop out from the squad due to injuries. Top player HS Prannoy had to drop out due to an injury that occurred at the Swiss Opens earlier this year. Women’s doubles partners Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also pulled out from the tournament due to the later incurring injuries.

The Indian team at present consists of 

  • Men’s Singles: Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, Sai Praneeth
  • Men’s Doubles: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, Dhruv Kapila-Arjun MR, Manu Attri-Sumeet Reddy, Krishna-Vishnuvardhan
  • Women’s Singles: PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Aakarshi Kashyap, Malvika Bansod 
  • Women’s Doubles: Ashwini Bhatt-Shikha Gautam, Simran-Ritika 
  • Mixed Doubles: Ishaan Bhatnagar-Tanisha Crasto, Venkat Gaurav Prasad-Juhi Dewangan

Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and Sai Praneeth will go head-to-head with defending champion Kento Momota of Japan, Anthony Ginting of Indonesia, Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia, and Loh Kean Yew of Singapore for the Men’s single title. 

Akane Yamaguchi, Nozomi Okuhara of Japan, and An Se-young of South Korea are going to give stiff competition for the Women’s single title. A lot of hope for India rides on PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen as they are both in fantastic form. Saina Nehwal who returns to the game after a series of injuries would also be looking to claim her fourth medal at the Badminton Asia Championships.

Sunday, May 1: Finals – 10:30 AM

You can watch the Badminton Asia Championships 2022 matches on Sony TEN 2 and Sony TEN 2 HD TV channels in India from the quarter-finals onwards as they will have a live telecast of the series. 

Is there Live streaming of the Badminton Asia Championships 2022? 

Badminton Asia YouTube channel will have live streaming of the tournament from April 26 to 29 and on the SonyLIV platform from April 29 to May 1.
