What Is The Role of A SAFe® Agilist?
SAFe® Agilist represents a first introduction to the SAFe® principles and constructs. The certification is awarded following successful completion of an exam, for which the two-day course “Leading SAFe®” serves as preparation. Lean-Agile Enterprise, as the title suggests, is for people who are going to be leaders in organizations using Lean-Agile. Therefore, they will have to grasp the framework at a strategic level.
A comprehensive description of the Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®) and its underlying principles related to DevOps, product development flow, design thinking, Lean Portfolio Management, and Systems Thinking is given in Leading SAFe®. Additionally, it gives Lean-Agile leaders the ability to support and participate in a PI Planning event and to understand the work that goes into one or more Agile Release Train (ART) events.

What Are Some Possible Prospects of A Certified SAFe® Agilist?
Even if the journey seems long, it is worth all the hard work. As a SAFe® Agilist, you would have been exposed to the framework in great detail. If you want to progress in SAFe® further, you may want to consider which role you want to take on, and follow training according to that goal:
- A SAFe® Agile Administrator can apply the Lean-Agile approach to manage or lead an Agile Team.
- A SAFe® Scrum Master or even SAFe® Advanced Scrum Master can facilitate and coach Agile Teams in a SAFe® organization.
- Using an Agile Team as an example, a SAFe® Product Owner provides the team with priorities and expertise, while taking product decisions at the feature level.
- Meanwhile, an Agile Product Manager provides features priorities and expertise for an Agile Release Train, while managing stakeholder and customer demands.
- Release Teams Engineers keep an organization’s Agile Teams on track.
- SAFe® Program Consultants lead change within an organization as internal SAFe® consultants and trainers who help others to take on SAFe® roles and so keep the SAFe® framework in place throughout the entire organization.
No matter the experience of the participants, they will be able to benefit from the course. It is highly recommended, however, that those who intend to take the SAFe® 5 Agilist (SA) certification exam should have:
- A minimum of 5+ years experience in software development, testing, business analysis, or product/project management.
- Prior experience working within Scrum.
