With the conclusion of the ISL last weekend and Hyderabad defeating Kerala Blasters on penalties in the final.  Many fans placed bets on newbettingsites.uk  on the outcome of the game and were not left disappointed. However, we are taking a look back at some of the best foreign players to play in the ISL.

  1. David Trezeguet

The French international ended his career in India with FC Pune City scoring two goals in nine appearances. However, he arrived with two Serie A titles, two French titles, one European Championship and a World Cup medal. He also scored the winning golden goal against Italy at Euro 2000.

  1. Robert Pires

Another French international who was also part of the 1998 and 2000 squad that won the World Cup and European Championship. After a successful career with Arsenal winning the Premier League twice and the FA Cup twice, Pires ended his career with FC Goa where he scored one goal in eight appearances.

  1. Roberto Carlos

Carlos arrived as a player manager and he may have only made three appearances for Delhi Dynamos but he came with a CV like no other. Four La Liga titles, three Champions League winner medals with Real Madrid, two Brazilian Serie A titles and a World Cup winners medal with his country.

  1. Alessandro Del Piero

The Italian playmaker was Mr. Juventus as he made over 705 appearances for The Old Lady and scored 290 goals as well as winning seven league titles, the Champions League and a fistful of other cup competitions. Del Piero also won the World Cup with Italy in 2006 scoring in the penalty shootout against France.

  1. Robbie Keane

Ireland’s all-time scorer enjoyed a prolific time in India with ATK as he scored eight goals in all competitions. He is still the fourth top goal scorer for the club and many fans still talk about their lethal Irish striker.

  1. Luis Garcia

The Champions League winner is the first name on the list to win the ISL and he did it in the inaugural season after his side ATK defeated Kerala Blasters. The former Liverpool midfielder scored two goals in ten appearances for the club.

  1. Nicolas Anelka

Anelka feels like the most travelled striker of all time having played for PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid and several more clubs around the world. He might be nicknamed Le Sulk but he knows where the goal is and he found it 210 times across his club career as well as fourteen times for his country. He spent two years with Mumbai City scoring two goals.

  1. Dimitar Berbatov

Possibly the most elegant player of all time. He signed for Kerala Blasters in 2017 alongside other great players such as Wes Brown, Paul Rachubka and Iain Hume. Despite winning the Premier League twice and the Premier League Golden Boot, Berbatov struggled with the tactics of former England goalkeeper David James.

  1.   Freddie Ljungberg

An Arsenal legend who was part of the Invincibles side, alongside Pires, and winner of three FA Cups; scoring in the final against Chelsea and on penalties against Manchester United three years later. Ljungberg began to become a journeyman after success with the Gunners and ended his career with Mumbai City in 2014 making four appearances alongside Anelka.

  1. Mikaël Silvestre

Another French player who enjoyed success in the Premier League. Silvestre won the title with Manchester United four times, an FA Cup, a Champions League and an Intercontinental Cup. He joined Chennaiyin FC in 2014, alongside former Manchester City midfielder Elano, and they finished 1st in the league but were defeated in the semi-finals.

  1. Alessandro Nesta

As well as Silvestre, possibly one of the best defenders of the modern era played in the ISL for Chennaiyin. The four times Serie A defender of the year Alessandro Nesta won a wealth of trophies for his clubs and countries. He played for Milan and Lazio winning three Serie A titles, three Coppa Italias, three UEFA Super Cups and two Champions League trophies. He also picked up a winners medal for Italy at the 2006 World Cup.
