Ratan Naval Tata was born 28 December 1937 an Indian industrialist, philanthropist, and former chairman of Tata Sons. He was also chairman of the Tata Group from 1990 to 2012, and again, as interim chairman from October 2016 to February 2017, and continues to head its charitable trusts.  He is the recipient of two of India’s highest civilian awards, the Padma Vibhushan (2008) and the Padma Bhushan (2000).

Ratan Tata personal life

In 2011, Ratan Tata said, “I came close to getting married four times, and each time I withdrew out of fear or for one reason or the other.” Ratan Tata recently said that he was in love with a girl while working there in Los Angeles. Since her family members were ill, she had to return to India but the girl’s parents did not allow her to come to India with Tata. So Tata stayed true to his commitment and never married.

Awards and recognition

Ratan Tata holds senior positions in various organizations in India and is a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry. In March 2006, Tata was awarded the 26th Robert S. Awarded prize. Hatfield Ratna Member in Economic Education, the highest honor conferred by the University to eminent persons in the corporate sector.

Ratan Tata’s overseas relations include membership of the international advisory boards of Mitsubishi Corporation, American International Group, JP Morgan Chase, and Booz Allen Hamilton. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the RAND Corporation and their institutions: Cornell University and the University of Southern California.

He recently received an honorary doctorate from the London School of Economics, and in November 2007, Fortune magazine named him one of the 25 Most Influential People in Business. In May 2008, Tata was included in Time magazine’s 2008 list of the 100 most influential people in the world Tata was praised for his small Rs 1 lakh car, the ‘Nano’. One of those important people who kept his promise.
