Andy was born in Manchester on March 5, 1958. He was the youngest one of Barbara and Hugh Gibb’s five children. He was only six months old when his family moved to Australia.
At the age of nine, he did, however, return to the UK, as his older brothers were beginning to achieve success abroad.
Andy was still a young child when his brothers’ singing group, the Bee Gees, scored their first significant hit. Gibb’s brother Barry handed him his first guitar and pushed him to follow his musical interests. Gibb, the Bee Gees’ youngest sibling, too benefited from the advantages of the rock and roll way of life.

Eight of Gibb’s singles made the US Hot 100’s Top 20, with three of them reaching the number-one spot: “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” (1977), “(Love Is) Thicker Than Water” (1977), and “Shadow Dancing.” These songs helped Gibb gain popularity from the late 1970s to the early 1980s (1978).
