Charla Nash Reveals ‘Beautiful’ New Face

by Sonal Shukla

Charla Nash, whose entire face was transplanted after she was attacked by a chimpanzee, has shown off her new appearance.

Pictures released by Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, showed Charla Nash, who was blinded as well as losing her hands in the attack, lying back in a hospital bed with her eyes closed.

Charla Nash said in a statement, “I Will Finally Be Able to Do Things I Once Took for Granted

“I’ll have my sense of smell. Normal eating will be possible for me. I won’t look ugly anymore. I’ll speak plainly once more and have lips. I’ll be able to embrace and kiss my loved ones. I’m really appreciative to the donor and her family.”

According to medics, Nash lost the majority of the soft tissue in her face during the attack, along with her eyes, nose, upper jaw, and lips. The family requested that the donor’s identity be kept a secret.

In July 2010, medical professionals at the Vall d’Hebron hospital in Barcelona displayed their accomplishments after performing the first full face transplant in history.

In 2005, Isabelle Dinoire, a 38-year-old woman who had been attacked by her dog, underwent the first successful partial face transplant in France.

Since then, roughly a dozen face transplant procedures have been performed in Spain, China, and the US.

Charla Nash asserts that she has always been a survivor, and she required all of her courage when she was attacked by a friend’s chimpanzee and suffered horrific injuries.

In a Horrifying Attack, Travis the Monkey Tore Charla Nash Hands and Face Off

After his mother was shot dead while attempting to flee the Missouri Chimpanzee Sanctuary in the United States when Travis was only three days old, Sandra and Jerome Herold decided to adopt him.

Travis, who was brought home by his adoptive parents and was given the name Travis Tritt in honor of Sandra’s favorite musician, quickly integrated into the family.

He frequently commuted to work with the devoted pair and accompanied them whenever they went shopping.

Travis was happy to pose in snaps at Herold’s trucking company and was well-known by everyone who knew the family.

Since Travis had grown up around people and was a member of the Herold family, he was accustomed to them and got along well with the neighbors Sandra and Jerome.

He listened better than my nephews, according to a neighbor who used to play wrestle with the chimp.

Travis Even Adopted Many of the Characteristics of His Human Family

Travis even adopted many of the characteristics of his human family, including the ability to clothe himself, open locked doors with a key, water plants, and even feed hay to the Herolds’ horses.

Travis sat at the dinner table with the rest of the family and even drank wine from a stemmed wine glass during special occasions in the Herold home.

The strange critter loved ice cream and even knew when the ice cream trucks would pass by his house.

And Travis was eager to learn about technology; he became proficient at using a computer to access pictures, watched TV using a remote control, and adored baseball games.

Travis had even taken driving lessons and had been spotted multiple times operating a vehicle.

When Sandra’s beloved husband, Jerome, passed away from cancer in 2004, having him in her home was a great comfort to her.

The sole son of the marriage died in a vehicle accident after this tragedy, and Travis was raised as the heartbroken mother and wife’s child.

She would give him a bath and pamper him while they slept in the same bed.

Sandra clarified: “Every night, he joined me in bed. You can’t truly understand a chimpanzee unless you’ve had meals and baths with one.”

Although Travis appeared to be acting cute, there were indications that something was wrong.

In 2003, the chimp had managed to escape from Herold’s car while it was stuck in traffic.

An onlooker who passed by while they were waiting threw something into the car, hitting Travis through the half-open window.

The animal calmly unbuckled his seatbelt and pursued the person who had thrown the object inside the vehicle.

Fortunately, he was unable to grab him, but it took police many hours to persuade him to return to his owners. As a result of this occurrence, Connecticut approved new legislation prohibiting the ownership of any primates weighing more than 50 pounds.
