How to Take Advantage of Holiday Downtime

by Sonal Shukla

If you’re dreading going back to work after the holidays, you probably aren’t alone. With so much downtime during the holiday season, it can be hard to focus on anything other than what your holiday was like and what’s coming up in the new year. But if you keep yourself busy with some of these productive activities that take advantage of that downtime, this time around your vacation will have paid off!

The best thing about winter break is all of the extra time on your hands. You can read a book (or two or three), binge-watch an entire show, or even get creative and make something. These are all great ways to increase your productivity, but it can be hard to get started when you’re so distracted. So even if you don’t find yourself with a lot of time during the holidays, there are still plenty of ways to use that time productively! Here are some tips on getting organized and staying on track.

Use this downtime to work towards major goals!

Maybe the biggest idea behind this article is that you should take advantage of summer vacation with your projects and assignments in mind. Try writing big papers or presentations early in the break instead of waiting until the end of it. This way, you’ll have more free time to work on smaller tasks when you don’t have a lot of time to spare.

You can also use this time to organize your summer study schedule. If you know what classes to take and how much time each class will take, you can be prepared for the beginning of the year. This will also help you with your long-term goals .

Finally, you can use this downtime to start preparing for a major project or event that will happen in the next few years. If I’m working on something like a fundraising campaign for my favorite charity, I like to get started early so I don’t have to rush at the last second. This is especially helpful if you’re afraid of procrastinating and making something take too much time.

If your grade point average is important to you, it’s probably important to at least think about keeping it up over break. That’s why it’s important to keep track of everything you’re doing while you’re away from school.
