The Importance of Making Time for Deep Work On Your Business

by Sonal Shukla

If you’re like most people, your days are busy. Busy with work and busy with family and friends. There is always something to do. But what’s the one thing that never gets done? The one thing that could make all the difference in the world for your business? To answer this question, think about a time when you were really productive – when all of a sudden, you got so much things done in such a short period of time. Chances are, deep work was involved at some point in your day.

But deep work is a rare commodity, and it’s getting more difficult than ever to find. In this article, we will explore how to find deep work in your busy business life, and how to make the most of your opportunities to take advantage of it.

The Modern Workday

Over the last few years, the amount of time we spend in front of our computers has gone down as productivity has risen. There are a lot more meetings during the day and less time spent working on personal projects at home. This means that there’s less time available for reflection at the beginning or end of each day – which is when we’re most productive. That little window of time that used to be the calm before the storm is now hidden away in our busy days.

How to Find Deep Work

The good news is that finding deep work isn’t as hard as you might think. After all, it’s only a few hours here and there – not an entire day. So here are some tips for finding this sacred time:

Set aside dedicated times when you will make yourself available for important tasks only . Deep work requires complete focus and concentration, so make sure you spend this time alone and undisturbed by other people.  Make sure to schedule this time in your day, and you’ll be surprised at the productivity you get out of it.  Set it up in advance of important tasks that need to be done, like when you will be doing product research or working on an important email. [“Hack the Day” is an excellent example for how to set up a deep work day].
