Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, becoming the second-biggest longshot in the race’s 148-year history.

The Lexington-bred horse with 80-1 odds made his owner, trainer, and jockey a sizable sum of money in the process.

What kind of cash did Rich Strike take home from the 2022 Kentucky Derby?

As the race’s victor, Rich Strike got $1,860,000 of the $3 million prize pool for the Kentucky Derby.Rich Strike’s career earnings before winning the first leg of the Triple Crown were barely $111,289.Not bad for a horse that was claimed by owner Rick Dawson of RED TR-Racing during a $30,000 maiden-claiming race at Churchill Downs and entered the Derby lineup the day before when Ethereal Road scratched. The planet “What is this?”After the race on Saturday, Dawson remarked.”I got the impression that I have been transported.I’m not certain. This is incredible.

Are you sure this is not a dream, I questioned my trainer when he was up on the stage. It cannot be true, for that reason. This is real, he assured me.I approved.”

How much money will Rich Strike’s jockey and trainer make if they win the Kentucky Derby in 2022?

Eric Reed, the trainer of Rich Strike, and Sonny Leon, the rider, both won their first Derby entries. Trainers and jockeys often get 10% of every penny . I never imagined I’d own a Derby horse, Reed remarked on Saturday.”I never made an attempt to purchase a Derby horse at the yearling sale.I merely wanted to provide my customers with a horse that would make them happy, amuse them, and earn me a little money.Fantastic if we get a nice one.I never gave this much thought.”

How much money did the other top-placed 2022 Kentucky Derby competitors earn?

Epicenter, who finished in second place and received a $600,000 prize, did not break trainer Steve Asmussen’s 24-game Derby losing streak.Third-place finisher Zandon received $300,000, while Simplification earned $150,000 for placing fourth.

Mo Donegal, who came in fifth, was awarded $90,000.Rich Strike won the 2022 Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, completing the first leg of the Triple Crown.Down the stretch, Rich Strike overtook Epicenter and Zandon on the rail, pulling off one of the biggest upsets in Derby history.Of the $3 million prize pool for the race, the Rich Strike team wins $1.86 million. The group Epicenter receives $600,000 for coming in second place.

As the time for Saturday’s post time approached, there was no clear favorite.

There wasn’t a definite favorite as Saturday’s post time drew near. On the Derby’s official website, Epicenter (4-1) got the best odds (5-1) and was closely followed by Taiba (5-1), Messier (6-1) and Zandon (6-1).Prior to winning the Louisiana Derby and Risen Star Stakes, Epicenter placed second in the Lecomte Stakes.Taiba only competed in one graded stakes race, but he won the Santa Anita Derby, thus it counted. At Santa Anita Park in April, Messier finished second to Taiba, and Zandon had just won the Blue Grass Stakes.A thrilling finish to the 2021 Run for the Roses saw a duel between Medina Spirit (who was later disqualified), Mandaloun, Hot Rod Charlie, and Essential Quality.

Nothing change from last year. It appear  as though the Derby would provide a predictable outcome as it enter the final bend. Zandon was attempting to stay up on Messier’s right as Epicenter past him on the outside. There was no basis for the worries that jockey Joel Rosario might become entangle on the rail after leaving the No. 3 gate.

Concusion

After he maintained the proper pace to save enough energy for the final few furlongs. The race was effectively Epicenter to lose. Rich Strike then depressed the turbo button. He gave a phenomenal performance that will not soon be forget.

The peace sign from jockey Sonny Leon to Rosario, a la Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins, was the only thing that was missing.
