Google Home is one of the most popular smart speakers on the market today. Millions of people have already purchased Google Home devices and live streaming video from their homes. However, what if you are among them? If you are not yet familiar with digital home automation technologies, then it is time to learn! Follow these essential tips to set up household routines with your Google Home speaker.

-A Google account (Create an account on https://home.google.com/ if you don’t already have one)
-A network connected to the Google Assistant for Home device. (Your internet speed will determine how fast commands are processed. It is also recommended that your Wi-Fi network is secured with a password, especially if it’s not a private home network.)
1. Sign into your Google account on the web and then go to https://home.google.com/. Note: If you haven’t created an account, you will need to do so now to access the Google Home app on your phone or tablet. You’ll need to provide a mobile phone number because this is used to send a verification code via text message. This number is also used for Voice Match and if you want to use your Assistant with your Assistant Speakers.
2. Once logged in, you will be redirected to a welcome screen where you can choose to manage your home through the Google Home app or on the web at https://home.google.com/. Choose the option that suits you based on convenience or privacy preferences.
3. On the next screen, choose what information you would like to collect (for example: “Channels I listen to” and “My devices”). The selected information is stored in the default voice profiles of each device with this feature turned on. You can change the voice profile information by clicking the pencil icon that appears when you tap on an element of your smart home.
4. If you are using Google Home with Chromecast devices, you can set up routines to play music, videos and more from certain streaming services. For example, when you say “OK Google” and “Play music,” then Google Home will play a playlist for that service. You can get a list of the streaming services currently supported in Google Home and add other services in your Play Music account settings under Library Preferences. If a service is not yet supported, it will be added over time through updates to the app. You can also add music through the Google Home app.
5. At the top of your screen, tap on Devices (or click the Devices icon in the tab bar). Tap on your Google Home device, then go to Settings-Info & Device Settings-Privacy and Safety-Automatic Updates and turn Automatic Updates off.
6. Your Google Assistant for Home will then start checking for updates and downloading it when it is ready. Once that is complete, tap on Done at the bottom of the screen or in the center of your home screen. After a short time, you will be asked to set up voice training for your Assistant on this device so that you can give it personalized commands.
