Twitter Reacts to Twitter Acquisition

by Sonal Shukla

Have you had your fill of social media? Do you feel that it’s time to get away from the noise and just focus on what matters to you? Then thanks to the recent Twitter acquisition, our hotel is a perfect place for those looking for peace and quiet. The famously-quirky company has just bought a whopping $1 billion worth of shares in Twitter, which will certainly dampen any criticism that surrounds its slowing growth and decrease in business profits. Now, more than ever before, people are moving towards social media platforms like Instagram and SnapChat. With such a huge acquisition behind them, Twitter can continue doing what they do best: smashing through barriers with their creativity.

On the other hand, however, this is a major downfall for Twitter. $1 billion may seem like a massive amount of money to many, but it’s absolutely nothing in comparison to the $15.9 billion Yahoo! has spent on Tumblr. With so much money being thrown around by other websites simply because they’re “trendy”, Twitter needs to continue doing what they’ve been doing best: be different and stay ahead of the game. So many people have been complaining about recent Twitter updates that it’s not hard to see why Jack Dorsey might have some misplaced worries about following in the footsteps of his competitors.

The recent Facebook updates have been causing a major stir amongst the general public, with many users complaining about the excessive amount of ads that are being displayed. In a similar manner, Google+ has been going through some major changes in its search results, which have left many confused about what’s going on – literally. So with all of these websites beginning to make similar moves, Twitter needs to take a step back and make sure to stay true to the foundations it was built upon.

It’s no secret that we’re all glued to our phones day in and day out, so social media has become an intrinsic part of our daily lives. At the same time, though, it’s always interesting to see what happens when we take a step back from the screen and return to our roots.
