अमृतसर: 13 अप्रैल को जलियांवाला बाग नरसंहार का दिन है, और मंगलवार (13 अप्रैल) को बैसाखी त्योहार की 102 वीं वर्षगांठ है, जिसने 1919 में एक गंभीर मोड़ लिया।
जलियांवाला बाग नरसंहार भारत के लिए सबसे दिल दहला देने वाली ऐतिहासिक घटनाओं में से एक है, जिसमें ब्रिटिश अधिकारियों ने उन हजारों लोगों पर गोलियां चलाईं, जो बैसाखी के मौके पर जश्न मनाने के लिए इकट्ठा हुए थे।
इस घटना को भारत के इतिहास में बहुत प्रमुख स्थान दिया गया है, इसे भारत के राष्ट्रीय स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन में एक प्रमुख मोड़ माना जाता है।
13 अप्रैल, 1919 को लोग इकट्ठा हुए थे जलियांवाला बाग बैसाखी के अवसर पर, जब ब्रिटिश राज के एक हिस्से के रूप में, जिसने बड़े समूहों की सभाओं पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया, ब्रिगेडियर-जनरल रेजिनाल्ड डायर ने अपने अधिकारियों को आदेश दिया[en fire at the unarmed Indian citizens in which over 350 lost their lives and thousands were left injured, as per official records.
Following the incident, Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer in his defence said that he have had his troops open fire at the unarmed Indian citizens “punish them for disobedience”
The investigation was probed in the incidents and after the Hunter commission submitted their report, Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer was removed from his post and was named “the Butcher of Amritsar”.
Meanwhile, the Jallianwala Bagh became a key point in the history of India’s independence struggle. The monument still contains the holes that the bullets had made during the open fire on commands of Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer, and they highlight the severity of the incident.
