“Gaming headsets have been around since the 1980s, but they’re always in need of some new innovation.” So says Tim Schafer, founder of Double Fine games and former mayor of Whittier. But I disagree with him on this point: I think that gamers would definitely enjoy a fresh take on their popular headsets — something that doesn’t just provide better sound quality but also features augmented reality… or at least offers similar functionality as some other items on the market. Luckily, the Meta headset is set to be released as early as this summer, and it promises to offer a lot of innovation for gamers.
The next generation of Meta
Meta has been around for quite a while now — meaning that the company is keen on building off of its success with the latest releases. Their new headset is known as “Meta 2,” and it offers a few key improvements: upgraded wireless speeds, 360-degree tracking technology, and 3D-capable sensors. This means that you won’t have to worry about any more lag time when playing… or dealing with any glitches in your movements. Meta also promises to increase comfort with a new and improved pillow cushion, as well as an additional brainwave metric monitoring software.

Meta 2’s most important feature is its revamped design, which includes the addition of camera lenses for augmented reality gaming. The Meta 2 headset comes with two cameras that are attached to the earpieces — this means that you’re able to see your surroundings while playing in VR. But you can also remove them altogether if you prefer a less immersive experience.
