Slate’s ‘Slow Burn’ is the winner of Apple’s first podcast award

by Sonal Shukla

Slate tries out the first podcast award at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco, California.

As part of a panel discussion on the past, present, and future of podcasts at WWDC 2016, Slate’s “Slow Burn” was awarded Apple’s first podcast award on Monday. The podcast has already won an Earphone Award and a WNYC Radiotopia Award for its reporting on former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“As the first podcast ever nominated for an Apple Journalism award, I feel like I’ve just been tapped by a member of One Direction,” said “Slow Burn” host Forrest Wickman. “I would never have predicted this kind of success for a pod that takes so much pleasure in explaining as slowly as possible how our government works.”
