Sony’s high-resolution A7R V mirrorless camera now shoots 8K video

Sony has now released their newest mirrorless camera, the A7R V, and it’s not just a stills camera. With this release, Sony brings to market the first full-frame mirrorless camera with 8K video capability.

The company has announced that the new sensor is capable of shooting 3840 x 2160 video at frame rates up to 30fps – meaning you can get some seriously high quality footage from your DSLR!

The 8K video feature is an upgrade from Sony’s previous model which was able to shoot 4K up to 30fps. The new model is capable of shooting 8K video at frame rates up to 120fps.

The A7R V can record 8K movies internally in the industry standard Cineform format, as well as 8K QFHD in the MP4 format. It’s also possible to output up to 4:2:2 / 8-bit video via HDMI during Full HD recording for further external processing.

The A7R V is equipped with 5-axis image stabilization (that’s 5.5 stops of shake reduction) built into the camera body. This feature is ideal for tracking shots and movie recording, ensuring smooth footage to benefit high-quality applications including gimbal-like shots and will keep your handheld recordings steady when shooting any action sequence or subject that may move quickly such as wildlife or sports scenes.

In addition, the A7R V features a large EVF and LCD monitor, both newly developed with 4K (3840×2160) resolution. It uses the same robust, die-cast aluminum body as the A7R II, making it dust and moisture resistant, and also capable of operating at temperatures as low as 14°F.

The A7R V is compatible with Sony’s growing lineup of α Mount lenses, which now includes over 70 models including 15 native ‘FE’ full frame lenses.
