Performance In IPL

Shaky start of IPL

The year was 2008 and Mumbai Indians were ready for the biggest T20 league in India. But, Mumbai Indians were not this successful from the start. They started off on a slow note and then rose back again with their performance. During those times, the captaincy was handled by Harbhajan Singh and Ricky Ponting who used to guide them through their performances. Sending down deliveries at one end and batting on the other, they achieved a lot of success.

In the first two seasons of IPL 2008 and 2009, they remained at the bottom half of the table. In the third season, they finished runners-up to Chennai Super Kings and in the fourth season, they finished 3rd on the points table. But then again in 2012, they were in fourth place.

The Successful Journey of Mumbai Indians

In the sixth season of IPL, Mumbai Indians were very successful, clashing with Chennai Super Kings in 2013. They won that title and became one of the top teams of IPL once again. They got their name back from many years ago and started winning at a steady pace. Then finally after one year in 2015, they won the tournament for the second time. It was an amazing win for them as well as for all their fans around India itself. On both occasions, they defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final.

The game between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings has been one of the best matches in IPL as well as the first-ever India T20 League. These two teams have played many times and have had a great rivalry. This rivalry started from the very first season in 2008.

Chennai Super Kings became the champions of IPL 2 times until the start of the 2011 season. Mumbai Indians won their first title in 2013. Then Chennai Super Kings again became champions in 2018 after coming back from suspension.

Rohit Sharma became the captain of Mumbai Indians in 2013. He is one of the most successful captains in IPL history. He led Mumbai Indians to the playoffs and won the title in his debut season. In his captaincy, Mumbai Indians won five titles.

In 2013, Rohit Sharma was appointed as a captain for the first time. Before that, he was played at 5th place because of his inconsistency and that was one major reason MI released him in the 2012 auction but later they bid 8 crore rupees for him and Rohit Sharma with this price comes back to MI.
