How does Passport Seva work?

Indian passport holders and their family members are allocated centers through a computer-generated random number system. After receiving an SMS notification, they visit the designated Passport Seva location during working hours.

Indians are offered two modules of the interview – an A2-category interview and an A1-category interview.

At the A2-category interview, the applicant is screened against the risk of not getting a visa, with an officer deciding on whether the applicant is fit to travel to the relevant country. The applicant receives his/her passport within 1-4 days of appointment.

Material for the interview is provided at all Passport Seva centers. Applicants need to register themselves and bring their address proof (i.e. a copy of the voter ID card, ration card, or driving license).

The applicant needs to take these documents with them to the interview location. For the A2-category interview, an Attestation of Identity was issued by the concerned Regional Passport Office. You need to provide the Date of Birth, after submission of required documents/ in support of identity/date and place of birth.

For the A1-category interview, an Attestation of Identity issued by the Regional Passport Officer (RPO) is required. The applicant will also be provided a certificate after the interview.
