Functions of the SSC
- Conduct recruitment for Group “B” posts in Ministries/Departments of Government of India and their subordinate offices. All non-technical Group “C” positions in these ministries or departments.

About SSC
SSC was created on November 4, 1975, when the Government of India established the Subordinate Services Commission. The name was changed to Staff Selection Commission in September 1977. The Staff Selection Commission, consisting of a Chairman, two Members, and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations, is one of the primary bodies under the Department of Personnel. and Training (DOPT).

SSC examinations in Indian states
SSC exams are conducted in India in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, and Madhya Pradesh. Examination boards conduct various examinations.
