The Beauty Queen and Pride of India – Harnaaz Sandhu

Harnaaz Sandhu is an Indian beauty pageant contestant who won the title of Miss Universe India 2018. She represented India at the Miss Universe 2021 pageant in Bangkok, Thailand on December 14th and 15th, 2020.

Harnaaz Sandu Parents are Pranav Mistry who is a retired army officer. Her mother Niharika Konchare, is an interior designer with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  Harnaaz’s father stresses that he has always been supportive of his daughter’s decision to participate in beauty pageants and that she wants people to know that she is more than just a pretty face.

The Miss South Africa 1994 Harnaaz Sandhu was also a participant at the Miss Universe 1994 pageant held in Manila, Philippines. She became third runner-up, gaining the right to represent her country at Miss Universe 1994. She is the first person from India to participate at the Miss Universe pageant representing modern independent India.

Where Do Harnaaz Sandhu Parents Belong?

Harnaaz Sandhu’s parents are from India. Her grandfather, Colonel (retired) Pranav Mistry, was a soldier in the Indian Army and was honoured with the prestigious Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for his meritorious services.

Her grandmother, Vandana Mistry, retired as a professor of English at New Era College, despite reviving her career as a writer and publishing widely.

Harnaaz Sandhu’s mother, Niharika Konchare, is an interior designer with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture from the National Institute of Design (NID) and studied interior design also at NID as well. She is currently working as an Interior Design Consultant at SpaceWorks interiors. Her father, Pranav Mistry, served in the Indian Army for 30 years.

Born and raised in Kolkata, India, she has been modelling since 2014 and also participated in the Miss Indira Continental Pageant 2015. In 2017, she was signed with Niharika Konchare’s apparel line SpaceWorks. She has done modelling for brands such as Aakriti Khanna Saree Company, Mango Earth and Shine , SooJane and Rockstar.

Harnaaz Sandhu is currently an interior designer and previously was an interior architecture student. She plans to use her Miss Universe India title to help empower young women and girls through education.  As well as to promote a healthy lifestyle. She believes that the qualities most important in a girl are confidence, a sense of humour, and the ability to speak up for herself. Harnaaz Sandhu also takes care of street animals and has adopted three street dogs with her brother.

She has faced a lot of backlash for participating in beauty pageants. Since the beginning of her pageant career, she has been criticized by her family as well as other members of the Indian community.

She was challenged by her mother Niharika who said that she would never let Harnaaz participate in pageants. According to Niharika Konchare, Harnaaz’s participation in Miss India would ruin their reputation.

Some Controversies About Harnaaz Sandhu

She has been the subject of controversy due to her misleading videos which had false claims that she was seen performing more than 200 kegel exercises a day. Also, for doing over 1200 crunches and running an entire marathon despite being only 5’11”. Harnaaz Sandhu has been criticized for posting misleading videos and doctored images to promote herself.

Harnaaz Sandhu has been caught on camera making false claims about doing over 200 kegel (pelvic floor) exercises a day.  There were allegations claiming that she’s run an entire marathon despite her never having even run half a marathon.

Harnaaz Sandhu won the crown of Miss Universe 2021.
