How To Write A Good Essay

An essay is generally a piece of writing on a particular topic that depicts one’s opinion and perspectives on that topic. Here are a few ways in which you can get an idea of how to write a good essay.

#1. Know what your essay is about

The first and foremost thing to keep in focus is the theme on which you want to write your essay. So the audience, the type and the proposition would be the three things that you should always consider while writing your essay. Now out of all these, the most significant one is the main gist which your essay is talking about.

The gist is the primary idea that is being focused on and is given the utmost importance in the essay. Essays might sometimes get lost and go into discussions but then it will ultimately turn back to that primary agenda in the gist of your essay.

If you face any problem in figuring out and noting down the crux before writing your essay, then you should always give yourself some time and think about what is that one thing you would never want your readers to forget in your essay.

The best way is to involve your gist as early in your essay as possible and also when you mention something about it in a short sentence while introducing your topic.

#2. Select the type of essay you want to write

There are many types of essays to choose from, with each having its own characteristics and advantages/disadvantages. Here are a few major types of essays:

Argumentative essays:  These essays are the ones that involve declaring or upholding a position.

Admissions essay:  There are many educational institutions that ask for an essay while you are applying for their institution so that they know that what qualities or special features are attracting you to their school/college.

Persuasive essay: This type of essay typically attempts to convince the reader to agree with a point of view.

Compare and contrast essay:  This type of essay provides the reader with a comparison of two contradictory or related subjects.

Personal essays: These essays can be autobiographical or anecdotal in nature.

Expository essay:  Expository essays give a detailed explanation about a particular theme.

#3. Write for your audience

Your ultimate criteria should be the type of population for whom you would be writing your essay. Your readers should always get inspired and impressed by the language that you use. The choice of words that you choose and the way in which you frame your assertions will create a huge positive impact on your readers.

Here are a few tips for writing a good essay:

Master the five fundamentals: In order to write a catchy essay, it is very important to keep in mind all the five fundamentals that are brainstorming, preparing, drafting, revising, and proofreading.

Seek out another pair of eyes: It is always more beneficial when your essay is being checked by someone else be it your teacher, friend or anyone who is highly experienced in your family before you finalise your essay.

Grammar and form are essential: If your write up is not making any sense to your reader due to grammatical errors and the formation of sentences then all your efforts would be wasted.
